Yacht Safety Advice

Our aim

Our aim is to improve yachting and motorboat safety in all it’s various forms whatever and wherever you sail. Whether you own a small weekend motorboat or a large ocean-going yacht we believe that we can help you to chose appropriate safety equipment that will give you the best chances of survival and a fast rescue for you, your family and friends.

We do this by designing a safety package that is tailored to your specific type of boat and where you normally voyage, be it a short trip to a neighbouring island or a voyage of discovery to Spitzbergen. We have probably been there and done that so are well positioned to advise you on what you might need.

We are not distributors or producers of any one range of equipment so believe that we can give independent advice on the best products in the market. These will not necessarily be the cheapest or the most expensive; they will be products that we have either tested ourselves or that are recommended by independent testers such as Yachting World.

How we do it

In the case of a new vessel we will discuss with the vessel builder what equipment they would provide as standard and then discuss with you, the Client, what type of boating you plan to do. From this we will provide a list of safety equipment that we would regard as:

  1. Essential – either legally required minimums or “absolutely essential common-sense” stuff. This would normally include: lifejackets, flares, VHF radio, horseshoe lifebuoys and strobe lights
  2. Recommended – what we would recommend as a sensible minimum for the type of yacht and voyaging undertaken. This would normally include the items above plus: liferaft, EPIRB, emergency VHF,  DSC equipment, AIS distress beacons, Man Overboard Module, etc…
  3. The Wish list – A full suite of safety equipment including all of the above plus: medical kit, survival rations and equipment, and day to day safety equipment from jackstays to safety knives.

In all cases we will only recommend equipment that we have personal experience with or that is considered the best in the market at any one time.
